Floor Clocks is a term which is essentially synonymous with the terms grandfather clocks and longcase clocks and tallcase clocks. Floor clocks is meant to be a verbally descriptive term, in that grandfather clocks do actually sit on the floor, as opposed to being hung on walls like wall clocks, or put on mantels like mantle clocks. Another similar term which has been popular, but less so, than Floor Clocks, is Hall Clocks, which again connote standing in a hall, and perhaps also being of a smaller size, maybe more the size of a grandmother clock to fit in a narrow space. Interior Designers and Architects frequently use the floor clock terminology, as do interior decorators focusing on home decor and office decor and decoration.
